The Real World: San Diego (2011)

As of today, the only official production of any of the three shows is the 26th season of The Real World. Road Rules has not been renewed since the ill-conceived Viewers' Revenge and MTV has not yet announced whether or not they will renew The Challenge series after the currently airing Rivals.

So, appropriately, the first blog post would be about the The Real World: San Diego (2011). After the last two seasons revisited old locales, producers are heading toward a mansion in the ritzy La Jolla neighborhoods of San Diego:

The 6,845 square foot, five bedroom, six bathroom house is only minutes away from the popular Mission Beach neighborhood and is currently filming (Real World Houses). And what would be a spoiler post be without some hint of the cast? Vevmo has one of the best rundowns of the seven strangers:

Alexandra Govere, 21 - Los Angeles, CA
Ashley Kelsey, 24 - Winstead, CT
Frank Sweeney, 22 - Canasota, NY
Nate Stodghill, 22 - Grain Valley, MO
Priscilla Mendez, 19 - San Diego, CA
Samantha McGinn, 21 - Chesapeake, VA
Zach Nichols, 23 - Brighton, MI

Two interesting tidbits about the cast pop out immediately. First, most of the cast is over the age of 21. This actually has been the norm in the later seasons of Real World, especially since the focus on the cast has shifted more toward a partying atmosphere. Although 18 to 24-year-olds are eligible to be cast in the show, the cast has heavily featured 21 to 24-year-olds in the past few seasons. In fact, in the last five seasons, Emily (Washington DC), Jonna (Cancun), and Devyn (Brooklyn) were the only castmembers under age during filming. Second, Priscilla (San Diego) is actually from San Diego. In the past, producers have maintained a requirement for filming was that the castmembers could not reside in the town in which the show was being filmed. Melissa (Miami) and Ruthie (Hawaii) resided in Miami and Honolulu, respectively. From the producers' point of view, this created problems as this allowed these castmembers to escape the house and seek the solace of friends and family when times got tough. It comes as a surprise that after more than a decade of production, the producers have lifted this requirement.

Hopefully there is more to come from the new San Diego house. As always, hit me up with news if you have it: newrwroad@hotmail.com.

We're Back...

After a long hiatus, the Real World/Road Rules Blog is back! With 60 seasons (and one on the way!), the Real World/Road Rules Blog is back to posting daily information on Real World, Road Rules, and the Challenges.

Bear with us. The site is coming back, slowly but surely. There are undoubtedly a few kinks that we'll be trying to work out as we come back online. Here are some questions you may be asking yourselves...

Where were you for the past few years?

Living life. I did leave the blog for a couple years. But, rest assured, the same person who was updating this website before, is still updating this website today. I just found that this website became too time consuming and, simply put, I pretty much abandoned it for a while. I attempted to pass on the torch, but I could never find anyone reliable enough to keep it going.

How long had the site been up before you "abandoned it"?

Believe it or not, the first iteration of this blog came online as The Real World: Hawaii and Road Rules: Semester at Sea came into production. That puts the birth of the site around 1998/1999. At the time, I was a 14-year-old kid in high school, who was excited about the show and learned a little HTML. Back then, the website had a different name and was under a different host, but it was the early version of what you see today.

14 years old? No way! Let me do my math, that makes you... old now, doesn't it?

Yup. I'm pretty old. I'm a college graduate in my mid-twenties with a job. Time flies when you learn HTML.

So, can I trust that the blog will be updated regularly from now on?

I'm not sure in what capacity the blog will come back, but keep your fingers crossed. The Internet is amazing and has grown leaps and bounds since I last updated regularly. I'll try to scour the 'net for some amazing news and I'll rely heavily on you guys to keep me updated. In fact, if you have some news, shoot me an email at newrwroad@hotmail.com.

Alright folks. Sounds good? I'm still working on cleaning up around here. I still have a LONG way to go and there's still a lot of dusting and tweaking that needs to be done. Keep checking in!

Update on the Website

Welcome back to the blog.

First, an explanation is in order. In a month without updating, several posters had taken over the comments section and had "announced" that I was dead. In an unfortunate series of events, they managed to convince some people of an imaginary family grieving over the loss of their father. Let me assure you, this is not true. The comments section is entirely out of hand at times and I am seriously considering permanently shutting it down. There seems to be one or two posters who ruin it for everyone, but Blogger has yet to introduce features to ban these troublemakers.

Over the past few weeks, I have been inundated with work in real life and it has become increasingly difficult to keep up regular postings on the Blog. Some have even commented that in the past few months before that, the quality of posts had gone down anyway. There a lot of reasons for this, not only personal. But the "spoiler environment" has quickly dissipated in the past few years. Production is more sporadic than it has been in the past. There is usually more than one season filming at a time, but it has been almost a full month since Hollywood stopped filming and six months since the Gauntlet finished production. In addition, a lot of the information that castmembers share with their fans is now relegated to MySpace, making it difficult to centralize information.

Nevertheless, I know people still enjoy reading this site, so I'm opening up the author duties to anyone who wants to come into a collaborative effort to join the blog. You will most likely be a part of a team of bloggers who will post regular updates on the internet. Before I post a detailed list of instructions and expectations, I want to gauge what kind of interest is out there. If you think that you will be interested in posting to the blog, email me at newrwroad@hotmail.com. Further instructions will follow.

As for the future of the site, it's not closing anytime soon. I will be posting as updates come and go, so keep on checking in. Thanks for being a loyal reader to the site and have a wonderful day.

Sydney Episode #20: Post your reactions here

The relationships in the house seem to be busting at the seams (No pun intended) when the two couples seem to run into trouble.

On tonight's episode, Kelly Anne (Sydney) and Cohutta (Sydney) experience the second pregnancy scare in the history of the Real World. This time, they let us in the bedroom, as the condom breaks, and the two freak out over impending offspring. Last time, Steven (Las Vegas) and Trishelle (Las Vegas) had a freak-out when Trishelle was a few days late.

On the other side of the house, Ashli (Sydney) and Dunbar (Sydney) run into their own snags, at it seems like the two are finally getting to each other.

Will these relationships last? Post your reactions to tonight's episode here.

The MySpace page of Kimberly, another roommate, is revealed

Kimberly (Hollywood) is another roommate on this season of The Real World. Apparently, all we know about her is that she's blond and is 25 years old. She was billed on the Whiskey Tango Foxtrot? flyer and she was seen in the video taken by the blogger who caught the seven strangers in action.

Here is her MySpace page, which is set to private.

Famous theater actress is rumored to be the boss of the 20th season cast

Charna Halpern, founder of ioWest, the comedy troupe that the 20th season is working for, may be the group's boss.

Halpern has been with ioWest for more than 20 years and she is a renowned theater actress in Chicago. She is rumored by the Chicago Sun-Times to be the leader of the comedy troupe "Whiskey Tango Foxtrot", the group that the seven strangers came up with after interning with ioWest for the past couple of months.

And yes, much like other reviews that are online, they say that it seems that the seven strangers are horrible at improv. We'll see when this season airs.

Blogger reveals names of the Real World cast; they are interns at ioWest

A blogger over at The Josh Place has revealed the names of the new cast of The Real World which is currently filming in Hollywood.

Brittini, Brianna, Dave, Kimberly, Nick, Sarah and Will are supposedly the cast of the Real World Hollywood. This matches up with information we received on one of the castmembers, Brianna, who has a MySpace and was once a contestant on American Idol.

Conspicuously missing from this list is Greg, who won the MTV online casting round. Greg, reportedly unhappy with his roommates and job, was kicked off the show after he missed a performance to attend a runway show at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. Apparently, he was fired by ioWest, a local comedy troupe in Hollywood, after he failed to appear in the show. It looks like he has since been replaced.

Sydney Episode #19: Post your reactions

Tonight, Dunbar (Sydney) finally crosses the line: he has sex with Ashli (Sydney). We'll see how he handles the situation and whether he'll tell Julie. Also, we get our sixth roommate back as Isaac (Sydney) returns from his grandfather's funeral.

Isaac is happy to hear that Trisha (Sydney) was kicked out of the house, while the girls start warming up to the idea that it was possible that they had no real reason to hate Parisa (Sydney) for doing what she does. Ashli even admits that all she liked about Trisha was that she was fun to party with.

Parisa will also begin to get more comfortable with her decision as her roommates open up to her again.

Post your reactions to tonight's episode here.
