Real World creator Jon Murray on his production company turning 25

The creator of The Real World, Road Rules, and Challenge series recently gave an interview with the Hollywood Reporter

Jon Murray & the Denver cast in the background
Jon Murray, creator of the Real World, Road Rules, and Challenge, is also responsible for a number of different reality shows. Bunim-Murray is at the helm of the wildly successful Kardashians series, the Bad Girls Club, and are now producing Project Runway. Murray sat down with the Hollywood Reporter to discuss his production company turning 25 and the changing nature of reality television.

In the interview, he discusses his most proudest moment, when Pedro (San Francisco) impacted the nation by sharing his story with the world. Upon Pedro's death, former president Bill Clinton complimented Murray for his work on the series. Murray also opens up with other series including Keeping Up With the Kardashians, the Simple Life, and explains why The Real World wouldn't be picked up as a series today.

Hulu Plus Offers Full Episodes of Real World and Road Rules

Hulu Plus, a web-streaming service, is currently offering full seasons of The Real World and Road Rules for a monthly fee.

Road Rules: USA Tour II
Hulu offers old school seasons including the first two seasons of Road Rules and the first four seasons of The Real World. So, if you're late to the game, you can catch up with Mark (USA Tour 1), who first appeared on the series in 1994. Amazon actually offers recent episodes of The Real World and The Challenge and their catalog is recent, but much more substantial than Hulu. From time to time, old clips will appear on YouTube and other file sharing services, but are usually taken off.

Road Rules is being pushed to Wednesdays at 10:30pm setting up an hour of Real World and Road Rules

MTV is undergoing several changes, so there are naturally several changes that are going on with the shows. We can see a lot of it in Road Rules as the rules are being changed before our eyes and now programming schedules are being messed with.

On last night's episode of Road Rules, it was announced that the series would be moving to Wednesday nights at 10:30pm to be aired after The Real World: Denver.

This probably means that there will be no more afternoon sneaks of Road Rules and that we'll be getting twice the BMP action in one night while sacrificing our Tuesday nights to another channel. So, don't forget, Road Rules airs on Wednesday nights instead of Tuesday nights.

A new, cool Road Rules website returns for another crack at it

Another Road Rules website has popped up. New Road Rules Web, which had previously been up and running for a while, just had its grand re-opening.

The website has a pretty sleek design and the content is updated on a consistent basis. (Now only if MTV.com's website looked like that!) So, we welcome back Road Rules Web and we hope that you guys go and visit them!

Viewers Revenge Episode #2: Abram hits Adam and is sent home saving the Roadies from Elimination this week

The show started with a quick recap and a basic re-run of the Elimination Pit that was supposed to run exclusively on MTV.com.

The cast begins by picking up the two Elimination Pit Crew Members. Abram (South Pacific) makes the comment that it will be between the four of them for the next Elimination Pit. Shane (Campus Crawl) makes the comment that he won't care what the mission is because he think that he'll be targeted.

The cast seems happy to see new castmember Tori (Viewers Revenge). Tori gets their mission clue to get to the Encina Jetty in Carlsbad, CA. They think that they'll get to do white water rafting. They get to do "Swift Water Rescue".

They have to successfully complete an actual rescue. They work with the San Diego Swift Water Rescue team. They first get an introduction to the training that they'll receive for the mission. The cast trains to get into the river and retrieve a body from the river. Tori has a few problems with the training to begin with.

The training scares the cast as Tori could have been seriously hurt. The cast seems happy to have Tori's energy in the RV. Tori explains her background, her dad, and the absence of her mom.

They get their mission from Drew. They have to get a call from dispatch where they have to rescue two victims. Four castmembers have to rescue the two victims. If the victims are washed out to sea, they fail the mission and get nothing. Kina (Extreme) and Adam (The Quest) are the most comfortable with water, so they are chosen to be the victims.

Adam is the first victim and he flows down the channel. Shane jumps in to catch Adam and gets swept downstream, but Shane catches Adam. Kina has to grab the net that Abram and Tori are holding down. They successfully lead Kina out of the channel.

The cast is at the pool, and the group is deciding who is going into the pool. Adam and Susie volunteer themselves, and Abram has a problem with it. Then, all hell breaks loose. Abram and Adam begin to fight over the vote. The situation escalates and the two get in each other's faces. Kina tries to pull them apart. Tori is overwhelmed by the situation and begins to cry. Abram actually throws a punch. He knows that he'll be sent home and he leaves to pack his bags.

The Roadies then have to pick two castmembers to pick up their new castmember. Adam and Susie, who were going to go anyway, are chosen to go. So, this Saturday, two male Pit Crew nominees will be chosen to battle it out for their spot on the RV. Go vote at roadrules.mtv.com.

And for this episode, we have some nice, memorable quotes that pretty much summarizes this episode. The quotes come through really clearly in the raw footage that's available at iFilm. (Check the previous post.)

"Don't you fight... Don't you fight... Don't! You did it the first time, don't you do it again! -Kina (Viewers Revenge)"

"Oh, you motherf$%$er... oh, you as$%ole. -Kina (Viewers Revenge"

"I just want to go home. -Tori (Viewers Revenge)"

"Oh God... Please stop! Please, please, please, please... stop it! -Susie (Viewers Revenge)"

"Adam! Walk away! -Susie (Viewers Revenge)"

"You're still a fuc$%ing punk bi$%h! -Abram (Viewers Revenge)"

The first episode of Road Rules Viewers Revenge airs tonight

It's been three years in hiatus. It's been three years since we've seen the Roadies hit the road.

Tonight at 9PM (Afternoon Sneak at 4:30PM), Road Rules will return to the airwaves.

Special thanks to BMP who worked hard on bringing the series back and thanks to everyone who keeps on coming back to the site for the latest Road Rules news.

Good luck to the six alumni and the eight new castmembers who will try their luck in this fourteenth installment of the series. It's been far too long and we're glad to welcome Road Rules back!

Viewers' Revenge will have a host, Drew Bell, which signifies that the show's format will be heavily altered

During the Launch Special, Susie Castillo briefly introduced Drew Bell, the new host of Road Rules.

Who is Drew Bell? Here's his IMDB listing. It's pretty scarce and you may not know who he is. He's not the soap actor with the same name. That's a different Drew Bell.

This Drew Bell was formerly on MTV's short-lived show "Call to Greatness". The show aired early last year and it featured five friends trying to break several world records, most of them pretty wacky. It was a "Jackass"-like show where he played the Johnny Knoxville role.

Now he's the Road Rules host. No word on what kind of role he'll take on the show. Maybe he'll interact with the castmembers, maybe he'll take a Challenge-like role and just referee the eliminations, or maybe he'll be a full-on host. Stay tuned.

Rachel and Veronica do an interview to discuss Road Rules and College Dropout

In anticipation of the new season, Rachel (Campus Crawl) and Veronica (Semester at Sea) have both done interviews with MediaVillage describing the rise of their company which focuses on shirts they wear on MTV.

The most interesting parts of the article? The company will expand to great proportions this coming season, with new shirts and a new website being introduced. Another good little tidbit was that both Rachel and Veronica were considered, but ultimately you can't have a show that's diverse with two best friends. So, as Rachel says, "You can't have a Road Rules show without Veronica, so they of course offered it to her."

The season preview of Road Rules airs tonight.

Don't forget to check out the recap we'll be posting here as well later on tonight.

Road Rules: Viewers' Revenge Launch Special airs tonight; Adam might have seen RV yesterday

Tonight, the Road Rules Viewers' Revenge Launch Special airs tonight. Although it's not an "official episode", this just means that there's another week until Road Rules is finally back after a long absence.

Adam (The Quest) mentioned last weekend that he'd be gone to do some filming for the new season. In a second post on Monday, he also mentions that he's now back from filming interviews and that he might have got a chance to see the RV yesterday in the Hollywood Hills.

If you're in the RV area, keep your eye out for the infamous horns! The following is the trailer for the show. MTV is airing the afternoon sneak at 4:30pm, and the episode officially airs at 9:00pm, but check your local listings.

Adam announces on his MySpace that the Roadies left for the show on Saturday, wants you to keep him in the RV

Adam (The Quest) posted on his blog this weekend that he was leaving for Road Rules on Saturday. Rumblings on other people's MySpaces, including some of the other Roadies, indicate that everyone, including the "Pit Crew" meets up tomorrow for the start of the series.

If you're keeping up, everyone has already met each other in the cast, as they all arrived in New York a little while ago to do the photo shoot and the Launch Special. He indicates that the show will last an astounding 17 weeks, which probably means that there are sixteen different episodes. He also mentions that he will be blogging from the road, probably on MTV.com, which is an interesting feature that we have yet to hear about.

The rules, as Adam explains them as after losing a mission, the cast has to vote off a guy and a girl. They will go against whoever we vote in the "Pit Crew" over at MTV.com in a face-off to determine who goes and who stays. Adam also mentions that if they lose two missions, they have to nominate two guys and two girls, which maybe means that both a guy and girl will have to face-off against a member of the "Pit Crew". He also admits to not knowing the rules too well.

The Launch Special airs on Monday.

And now introducing your brand new cast of Road Rules Viewers Revenge

Again, for your viewing pleasure, the "pit crew" for Road Rules: Viewers' Revenge:

Road Rules Pit Crew MySpaces are revealed and some new details uncovered

Slowly but surely, the MySpaces of the "Pit Crew" are being revealed. Among the details revealed by the MySpace pages, is that filming has begun or is setting up to begin very soon. Also, the "Pit Crew", who obviously come from various parts of the country, will all be based in Los Angeles for the duration of filming. No word yet if they'll be filming material in Los Angeles to air on MTV or MTV.com. The "Pit Crew" has also met and pictures of them have surfaced on MySpace. They also have met with the alumni cast of Viewers' Revenge.

Here are the first MySpace pages:

Road Rules Wiki is updated to include information on all previous seasons

In anticipation of the new season basically premiering in the next two weeks, with the Launch Special coming out on Tuesday, and the first episode airing next week, I took the liberty of updating the Road Rules Wiki.

Wikipedia, which is an online encyclopedia of sorts, is a huge source of information about almost anything you can think of. It's a pretty awesome tool. For those of you who have joined the Real World/Road Rules fandom in the past three years and have never seen an episode of Road Rules, you'll throughly enjoy the updates I made on Wiki.

The page basically listed a couple of seasons, a couple of missions and had a complete listing of castmembers. I tried as much as possible to streamline the pages, adding some information on the handsome rewards, face-offs, and progression of the series on the main page. Then, if you look at each individual season page, you'll find some season highlights and a little trivia on each season.

Hope you'll have fun reading it and remembering at least some old memories!

A very short trailer for the new season of Road Rules has cropped up on MTV.com

Over at the Road Rules website, which currently has nothing on it and should be completely revamped in the next couple of days, a trailer for the new season of Road Rules has opened.

One of the most important things about this trailer, however, is what it reveals. There has been some question to if the pool of replacements would be newcomers or alumni. This trailer makes it seem as if they are newcomers. A casting call back in November also contributes to this notion.

Nevertheless, the trailers shows clips from past seasons and it's a great feeling for old fans who have missed the show since it went off the air in 2004. Here's some highlights:

13 seasons.
(Flashes title cards of several of the seasons)
163 missions.
(Flashes past missions)
And miles and miles of drama.
(Flashes clips of drama)
Road Rules is back.
(Flashes title cards of several castmembers)
But this season the rules have changed, with an all-star cast, and a group of eager newcomers ready to hop on board.
(Flashes of casts getting in their RVs)
This time, you decided who goes on the road, and who gets left behind.
(More random clips)
On this Road Rules, you rule.
(Premieres Tuesday, January 30 @ 9PM)

The several clips that I could gather are all jumbled up into a short one-minute trailer. Here are the clips I could make out:

Missions:
South Pacific's and catching/bungee jumping mission
Extreme's dog attack mission
Europe's running with the bulls in Pamplona, Spain
South Pacific's buried alive mission
Extreme's dune buggy mission
Northern Trail's WWF mission
South Pacific's bungee jump off New Zealand's Sky Tower

Drama:
A sound byte from one of the Ayanna/Veronica fights on Semester at Sea.
Abe's physical altercation with Donnell on South Pacific.
Pua and Ayanna's fight after Ayanna distances herself from the group on Semester at Sea.

RVs/Eliminations:
Down Under checking out their RV for the first time.
Maximum Velocity Tour checking out their RV for the first time.
Patrick and Derrick greet Angela when she arrives on Extreme.
Kina tells her castmembers good-bye when she's kicked off Extreme.

Random clips:
Shane and Darrell (Campus Crawl) dancing in a club.
The Extreme cast painted in their naked mission.
The Quest in Spain during a mission.
The South Pacific cast doing the tire-flipping, strongman competition.
Susie and Kefla freaking out on the alligator farm mission in Down Under.
Veronica bungee-jumping in the start of Semester at Sea.

Road Rules is officially back on MTV, new season premieres in February

After a long hiatus, BMP has been successful in resurrecting Real World's sister show: Road Rules.

Yes, The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Road Rules will be back in January, under a different format (as we have told you in the past), where viewers will actually get to select who gets to go and who stays.

This is good news for us, as we can bring you the latest updates as they occur. They will be airing episodes in sets of two, one airing on the channel and the other airing on Overdrive.

What's more interesting, however, is that there are reporting that six of the most "infamous" castmembers will be returning to the wheel for the first time around. So, does this make it more of a Road Rules reunion or a Challenge-like show? And will other former castmembers replace these evictees?

This is the first announcement, but there is most likely more news to come. Welcome back to Road Rules!

Update: CNN posts an article.

MTV is giving out Real World and Road Rules "insider alerts" on your mobile

MTV is starting a program where they send "insider alerts" to your mobile phone. Alerts on The Real World and Road Rules are bunched together, so you can supposedly get news on both shows and the Challenges via your mobile phone.

Although the site fails to offer any additional details and doesn't say exactly what "insider alerts" are, probably expect text messages telling you when the next show is on, or when a new piece of content is uploaded to the MTV website.

If you want to check it out, sign up here.

Rumor mill: Road Rules 14 may be casted alongside Real World 19

So a little update on the Road Rules rumor mill. Back in March, BMP announced that Road Rules would be entering a redevelopment stage, along with some content of its other shows such as The Simple Life. In the same announcement, they promised an actual series from T.J. Lavin called T.J.'s Tips and Tricks and The Real Mean Girls starring Veronica (Semester At Sea) and Rachel (Campus Crawl).

So, fast forward to now, if you take a look at BMP's website, they're currently casting for The Real World 19 by holding open calls and accepting tapes. It seems that they're also moving forward with The Real Mean Girls Club. I'm also hearing that casting for the 19th season of The Real World may also be for Road Rules as well. Ever since its inception, Road Rules has been casted from the same applicant pool as The Real World. Although there's no mention of it on the casting site, it's not totally unheard of for them to do this. (ie. Several of the Fresh Meat challengers were finalists for Key West. Linette (Fresh Meat) is known to be one of them.) So, if Road Rules were to be in pre-production, now would be the time that BMP would be casting for it. So send in those tapes!

Casting for the Bad Girls Club is underway;

BMP is casting a new reality TV show for OXYGEN to be filmed in August in L.A... They're making a series modeled after the "bad girls" of Real World and Road Rules. Although the new spin-off show will have no concrete affiliation, they're looking for the same type of girls along the lines of Veronica (Semester At Sea), Tina (South Pacific) and Rachel (Campus Crawl), the self-proclaimed "mean girls" of the BMP world. Here's the press release:

Does your refusal to play by the rules sometimes get you in trouble?

Need a way to get it together and reach your dreams without compromising the things that make you special?

From the producers of The Real World, six girls will live by the beach in L.A. and work with each other to tackle aspects of their personalities that while making them fabulous, tend to hold them back from success in relationships and careers.

The Bunim/Murray casting department is currently accepting applications (applicants must between 21 and 32) from across the country- so apply today! For our lucky six cast members, this is sure to be an unforgettable experience!

Send us an email with a brief description of yourself (what makes you a bad girl?), email, phone number and a recent photo to badgirlscasting@bunim-murray.com. Please make the subject: Attn: Susan, Bad Girls Club Las Vegas. We'll be in Las Vegas this weekend so please reply ASAP!

Also, our Las Vegas open call is this Saturday, June 24 at the Ice House Lounge (650 S. Main St., Las Vegas, NV 89101) from 2pm-7pm. Bring a recent photo and a valid photo I.D.
