In an article with the Las Vegas Review Journal, both Steven (Las Vegas) and Trishelle (Las Vegas) were surprisingly negative about reuniting with their five other roommates.
"I wasn't thrilled about doing it to be honest," says Steven, who was ultimately convinced by Frank (Las Vegas) to do the reunion. Frank had been excited to reunite in the Palms Casino/Hotel five years later and eventually brought Steven on board. Trishelle, being the last hold out, "didn't want to be portrayed poorly again." Eventually, both Steven and Frank convinced Trishelle to do the show.
The article claims that the cast wasn't allowed to leave the Palms for two weeks. Steven says that "I thought this was going to be the most boring show ever." But it quickly became apparent that that wouldn't be the case as the cast was provided with $150,000 worth of bottle service for the two weeks. "The first time was kind of crazy, and I thought that now that we're all adults, we might get to actually know each other better instead of just drinking all the time." Trishelle says. I guess not.
And finally, almost everyone recognizes that Las Vegas was the season that changed everything. Steven doesn't hold back when he says, "We ruined The Real World." With its fights, sex, and alcohol provided 24-7, the series reached new heights with high ratings and new fans. But Steven points out the downside: When 'The Real World' started it was really something relevant. And now it's really not. It's the same thing over and over again. It's sex and drinking and fighting and stuff like that."

Steven and Trishelle didn't want to do the reunion, couldn't leave the Palms, say Las Vegas "ruined the Real World"

Steven is more intelligent that people give him credit for.
Steven is more intelligent than people give him credit for.
Then why did they do it?
Oh yeah, I guess that money is worth more than their dignity.
He's right though, the Real World sucks. It's so boring to watch the same thing over and over again. Please give us some freakin' substance! Give us some worthwhile people to watch instead of a bunch of apesh*t losers who have nothing better to do than get drunk. If you're going to keep going this route, why not get some freebasing junkies on while you're at it? At least that would be something different.
they say they're going back to the RW roots with season 20, about people with goals and ambitions. I'll believe it when I see it.
Steven was totally right. The Las Vegas cast really screwed up the show. I remember when it was fun to watch and the cast had personalities that did not need to be influenced by alcohol.
When Las Vegas originally was on the air, I absolutely hated it. I even stopped watching about halfway through the season...the only season I actually liked post-Vegas was San Diego, until Frankie left -- then it got shitty again.
I think Real World is hit or miss. Personally, I thought Hawaii was the first season that really started to usher in the new era of boozing and brawling, but then things calmed down a bit with New Orleans. Philadelphia was relatively boring, but you had a firecracker of a cast in Key West.
It just seems like it's a trend -- look at how BORING London was and then how Miami's cast lived, the shower scene alone is one of the most memorable scenes in Real World history. Granted, it's gone WAY more the way of "I just want to be on TV and get drunk" rather than "I want to do this as a learning experience," but I still think the Real World's are hit or miss...with just more misses than hits anymore.
Steven couldnt be more right because look at them now! The ones that were itching to go back this time, (Frank), are the ones that come off as the biggest tools. Trishelle and Steven dont seem so bad this time around. Frank, seems to have regressed into some weird Frat boy post RW retard tho. I dont remember him being such an idiot on the 1st show, and now hes back to ruin what was left of his reputation. I think this happens to a lot of the current RW cast members. All the ones after vegas that ruined their lives and reps all turn into these kind of low life loud mouth drunks. I didnt expect it from Frank. He seemed like he'd have a job/life by now. He seems like a drunk loser now. Steven and Alton, seemed like they were headed here. Also, is Arissa on drugs?? She has the sunken in eyes of someone on heroine.
I dont care how much money they were paid, returning to make a fool of yourself on national tv should not have a pricetag. They have all proven themselves as morons. Bring back people of character MTV! That is the "real" Real World that we all want to see!
Ya dude. Frank probably agreed to come back in order to extend his current lifestyle Of being a drunk Cali poser. You cant blame the deuche for making the decision while he was drunk. But I can. I HATE that guy man.
I don't the Vegas cast ruined the Real World...I think Las Vegas itself ruined the Real World. How much crap would everyone have talked if Real World Las Vegas ended up being no drinking and no sex or fighting. IT'S VEGAS...that doesn't even happen for people that aren't on national television!
See! We shoulda had Real World: Austin reunited!
That way Wes could return to television!
i agree with the fact that the real world has gotten worse after the las vegas season, with MAJOR exceptions. San Diego was amazing and my personal all time fav, key west wasnt bad either, and denver was ok, the rest have sucked. but i think at this day and age partying is becoming more prevalent, i dont think a single cast or city wrecked the show, its the time we live in! but im glad they did this reunited thing..im hopping they might do a few more with other seasons like san diego or hawaii or new orleans, not austin however!
Steven's right. I used to be an avid watcher of The Real World, until the Las Vegas season. Key West and the Austin season had its moments, so did Paris. After those seasons, everything else is the same thing over and over again.
The comment above is from a dude by the way.
People need to STOP tuning in and and quit promoting stupid exploitative shows on MTV. I can safely say I hate everyone on this cast equally. 5 years later, They are all on the same level of low life.
It use to be my favorite show, now its just makes me feel dumb. I remember when all the cast members were cool, different and inspiring. Now its about how many dumb idiots MTV can get wasted, exploit, and make have sex with eachother. None of these kids have jobs or real aspirations. I couldnt watch past the first 5 minutes because I was so disappointed at what all the kids had turned into- Steven, Alton and Frank- nothing, except for Irulan & Brynn, who seem to have grown up.
Thats not the "real world". Its a social experiment for stupidity. Count me out.
Reunited and it feels so good
Reunited and it's understood
This show is a waste of time.
I have to agree. I've only seen the Real World a total of 10 times,( Hawaii, Chicago and a little of Key West.) I tried to watch Denver, but it seemed like all the people were drunk and liking sex a little too much.
I do agree that times have changed and it seems that the media is protraying us ( 18 to 28's) as drunks who have tons of unprotected sex. And part of the problem is the media, and ourselves as well. I went to one of the cast calls in Milwaukee, and the casting director told us to talk about anything we liked. Do you know what someone brought up? Drinking and how much they enjoyed it and did it every weekend.
