News that has hit fans hard this past week, The Real World: San Diego's Frankie Abernathy died Saturday, June 9. She was only 25.
Frankie had moved to Shorewood, Wisconsin to be with her mother, when the disease she was living with, cystic fibrosis, had gotten progressively worse. Frankie passed away Saturday night in her mother's home after a rough patch with the disease.
Since last Saturday, internet communities and Real World fans have been taken aback by the news. Frankie, who left the show early because she reportedly said that it wasn't for her, was a fan favorite because she stood out for her unique style and personality.
Services were held this past weekend in Blue Springs, Missouri, and a scholarship fund has been established in Frankie's name at Blue Springs High School, Frankie's alma mater. In lieu of flowers, fans can send donations to the Frankie Abernathy Scholarship Fund, c/o Jackie Langston, 1205 NW Roanoke Drive, Blue Springs, MO, 64015.
The following is a list of links to major stories about Frankie and provides a pretty complete view of the events of the past week.
Our prayers and condolences are with Frankie's family, her mother Abbie, her father Joe, her stepfather Perry, her sister Mamie, and her many friends.

this is so sad! sometimes viewers forget that the people on the real world are actually REAL! so it's a shocking tragedy to hear that a cast member has past away. I wish the best of luck to Frankie's family and friends.
its such a sad thing, I LOVED SAN DIEGO AND THE CAST, in my opinion, it was the best so its saddens me to hear that someone from my favorite season passed. Hopefully they will show the season in tribute to frankie and her great personality! RIP FRANKIE
I think that it's only right that they play a Real World: San Diego marathon in memory of her.
I know that I never got to see that season and I really want to.
Her sisters name is MAMIE not Marnie.
aaaah the blog is always fucking up
RIP Frankie
I never saw San Diego either!! one of the few I didn't see. What are the odds they will show it??
well that might play it before Sydney first airs... before Denver airred there was a poll on which season people wanted to see, San Diego was on the list.. even though they played Las Vegas, and I have no idea why because it's on DVD
omg you guys dont know what your missing, san diego was amazing..it had the best cast ever!! i really hope they show it in memory of her!
Did everyone hear that Coral just came out as gay. Funny didnt see that one coming..lol
"ven though they played Las Vegas, and I have no idea why because it's on DVD"
it's pretty obvious--to get viewers up to date before REUNITED airs.
reunited i doubt was even thought of when denver started, so i dont think it was for that reason
I hope Frankie has some peace now.
Ya they definately should play the Real World San Diego on MTV in honor of Frankie. That was a great season! It was one of my favorites.
this is such terrible news. frankie was definitely an inspiration to millions. she will be missed dearly.
i heard about this on TRl its so sad i wanted to cry. rest in peace frankie
Frankie was an inspiration? She sucked. I feel bad that she is dead but lets not confuse facts - she was an absolute suck in the house and did little to help her cause.
RIP Frankie. You were my favourite cast member on my favourite season, and I will miss you terribly. I suffered from a cutting, and after you do it on The Real World, I slowly got myself to stop doing it.
RIP.
