Favorite Moment: Dan and Melissa's Fight on the Real World Miami

Here's a blast from the past, The Real World: Miami. In 1996, Cynthia, Dan, Flora, Joe, Melissa, Mike, and Sarah lived in a million-dollar mansion on the Florida coast.

"Was it fucking yours to open up, you stupid bitch?!"
One of the stand-out moments from the season was Dan and Melissa's fight on the stairs. After Melissa had irritated the housemates by going through other people's things, Dan confronted Melissa. Apparently, Melissa had found projection slides in an envelope. The envelope was unmarked, but they were two slides from the Birdcage, the Robin Williams/Nathan Lane movie. Supposedly, they were hundred-dollar slides from Dan's job.

Dan found the slides conspicuously lying around, outside the envelope. He waited the entire day for Melissa to come home, stewing in his juices, ready to confront her. What resulted was one of the shortest, yet most epic Real World fights.

In 2007, Jezebel covered the fight. The fight erupted into a grotesque confrontation, with both Melissa and Dan lobbing horrible insults toward the other in less than two minutes. Jezebel has the full video, complete with uncensored language and commentary from Dan, Flora, and Nathan (Seattle).

Plenty has changed since Miami aired 16 years ago. The Miami house actually had a television, which producers found created hours of footage with the roommates sitting on the couch. Melissa was also a Miami native. Producers would later avoid casting locals in the cities they would film. Melissa would often escape the house to find refuge with family and friends, and moved out before the season wrapped.

However, even with the sensationalized nature of recent seasons, this fight stands out as one of the best Real World fights in the 20-year history of the series.

Denver Aftershow #11: Dan joins the fun, Stephen drops in

Dan (Miami) joined the fun last night in the Aftershow. Dan has done three challenges, contributing to TVgasm, is a writer, writes for entertainment publications, has a blog, etc.,

Stephen (Denver) came in as the last roommate to make an appearance on the Aftershow. They discuss the hot tub scene first. He makes excuses for his actions, then says Jenn (Denver) was the most sensible in the house to keep him in check. After a caller calls in blasting Jenn, Stephen defends his choice of picking Jenn to take care of him.

The fight with Jenn resulted from Stephen trying to take something personal and use it against him. Then they get a question about Jenn running the house, which Stephen doesn't agree with. He did forgive Jenn fairly quickly, but didn't seem to think that things stayed the same between them.

He did admit that he was cheating on Mercii. He then gets asked if he was a role model on the Real World and how his Christian values conflicted with the show. He says that he was conflicted, but he never thought he was a role model. He says he wouldn't have hooked up with any of the girls in the house.

Then the last question he asks: He would kick out Colie (Denver) and bring in Janelle (Key West). Next week the guest is Alex (Denver).

Dan's Denver House Tour is up on Overdrive; He will be booked to host the finale in January

So, every season since Chicago, there's been a reunion in the MTV studios, usually where they host TRL, usually hosted by a VJ.

(Trivia Note: They used to do reunions every couple of years. They did one four seasons into the series and another one ten seasons into the series. After the cast almost staged a revolt during the tenth season reunion, demanding more money, they stopped doing those.)

So, the last few reunions have been hosted by Susie Castillo. She even recently hosted the similar Laguna Beach finale. However, this season, it looks like an alumni will be hosting.

Dan, recently hosted the House Tour which was an On Demand video that has been available to cable subscribers with DVRs for quite awhile. (It is now available on Overdrive.) However, Dan (Miami) recently announced over at his TypePad that he will be hosting the reunion in much of a "talk show" format that they always do. Should be interesting having an alumni interview the cast.

The reunion tapes in January.

In anticipation of the new season, MTV releases On Demand clips onto Overdrive

Since this is the last weekend that you will go "Real World-less" for a considerable amount of time, MTV is releasing a couple of videos that will satiate your appetite. Check them out on Overdrive.

The clips are opened up by Blair (The Quest) who introduces Dan (Miami) and the rest of the clips:

Dan's House Tour: He starts in the living room. He sits in the chairlifts in the living room. Goes over to the "guest bedroom." He checks out the phone room. He checks out the Jeep/converted bar in the living room. The fireplace has a fish tank. He checks out the kitchen. Then he goes up to the bedrooms. The house has an interesting "changing area" behind the beds which you'll see once the season starts. He lays shuffleboard upstairs on the shuffleboard court. He then rolls around the C-couch. He looks at the office and ridicules its use and the books behind the desk. He then goes to the bathroom, which has four sinks, two toilets and two huge open showers with six showerheads. He also says this is the first house to have a gym, which is untrue, a couple of houses have had gyms including San Diego and Hawaii. Then he goes to the confessional and it's potential to hook-up. Then he checks out the basketball court/courtyard which has an endless pool and the hot tub.

Mile High Clubbin': The tour begins in front of Coors Field, which is front of the house. He then checks out LoDo's and they basically say they were loud and drunk. He interviews the Tavern and they say they ordered six shots in two minutes. Next, he's over to Tryst, which ridiculed them for not tipping, breaking things, throwing glass at servers, etc., He's then over to the Rock Bottom Brewery where the waitress seemed out of it, but she did mention that they drank.

High Altitude, Bad Attitude: This is a odd video. It starts of with sweeping shots of the Rocky Mountains, intertwined with the castmembers fighting. Then slowly, they begin introudcing a storm over the mountains, with some footage of castmembers fighting and yelling at each other.

Dan has a new part-time gig, he's the newest reporter for NBC news in South Florida

Dan (Miami) has an exciting new job on his long list of things that he does for a living.

Dan is currently doing reporting for the local NBC affiliate in South Florida. He actually covered ballroom dancing (the 36th Annual Grand National Ballroom Dancing Championship) and says that NBC might be inviting him back again to do some investigative journalism.

You can check out the actual video at Channel 6's website. It's pretty funny. Check it out.

Dan's blog is nominated for the Gay Bloggies; Be sure to vote for Dan

Dan's website, which is hosted over at Typepad, was nominated for the Gay Bloggies.

You can vote for Dan (Miami) in the category of "Best Writing" over at The Gay Bloggies website. Under the heading of "Best Writing of a Blog" you'll find Dan's website listed under "How was your day, Dan?"

Dan will host Denver preview special; Producers holding an open house for Denver

Here's some Saturday news: Dan (Miami) recently posted on his site that he's in Denver filming the intro special. This means Denver is all packed up and out the door, which we knew. Also, maybe this means since Dan is on good standing with production, he probably agreed to do the next Challenge? We'll find out.

Also, apparently, they're allowing people to tour the house on Monday, September 11. Sounds a bit strange, as it's never been done before. Typically, only press are invited to the house a week after filming commences to do interviews with the cast. Get Real Denver is reporting that the first 200 people or so who get to the house (at 1920 Market Street) will be allowed inside for $50 a pop. Proceeds will be going to the Denver Art, Culture & Film Foundation. The event starts at 6:30, so be sure to show up early if you plan to go. (First come, first serve.) Also, drop us an email at newrwroad@hotmail.com if you plan on going.

Dan is contacted about appearing in another Challenge; Duel promo airs during VMAs

Dan (Miami) has confirmed that there will be at least another Challenge filmed after the Duel. He mentions on his blog that producers recently contacted him to be on the next season of the Challenge after the Duel. Although it sounds like he's seriously considering the thought, he doesn't really say that he will. Most likely, producers are on the prowl for their new cast, so expect to hear more information about the Challenge leak soon. No word yet on its location.

During the VMAs, a promo for The Duel aired. Although it hasn't aired since, I'm sure it'll appear on Overdrive sooner or later. We'll try to keep you updated on that.

Dan is dispensing advice as a 90's icon; Duel picture appears on the internet

Dan (Miami) is dispensing advice as a 90's icon in the latest edition of Nerve Magazine. Be sure to check it out.

Also, someone pointed me to this picture of castmembers during the new challenge filming in Brazil. Check that out as well.

Mike and Trishelle win Fear Factor $150,000 prize; Dan is inviting you to his birthday party

Last night, Reality All Stars Fear Factor wrapped up. After eliminating the Amazing Racers, the Survivors and beating the Idols and Apprenti, Mike (Back to New York) and Trishelle (Las Vegas) were $150,000 richer after their win yesterday. Even after they feared they might've been sent home after losing last night's first stunt, since they wouldn't be selecting the order, the pair suceeded in setting the bar so high, that neither the Idols or Apprenti could do better than the Real Worlders. The last stunt required the teams to throw balls to one another from atop two cars perched high in the air by cranes. Mike and Trishelle beat out the competition with just two balls. Congrats to them.

Also, Dan (Miami) is inviting you to his Birthday Bash happening this Friday in South Beach, Miami. So if you're in Miami, go wish Dan a very happy birthday!

Case against Key West is ruled in producers favor; Dan does an article about open casting calls

The case brought against the Key West production has been ruled on. If you need to be updated on the fight, neighbors of the house on Driftwood Drive sued producers because of all the bright lights and noise disrupting residents on Driftwood Drive. Yesterday, Judge Mark Jones ruled that production could stay in Key West. Had the judge ruled otherwise, production would have been scrapped altogether on the season, as production told the court that Key West did not have room for them in other parts of the city. The only stipulation that the judge imposed on the production was the addition of further light fixtures to the house. Check out the article at the Miami Herald. You'll need to register. The article contains a picture of four castmembers in front of their tanning salon: a blond female, two males (one of which looks like Jose) and a brunette female.

Dan (Miami) also wrote an article for the Dallas Voice about an open casting call he did for the Real World in Dallas. Check it out!

The Austin cast had a garage sale; Judd has a new cartoon on TV; Steven, Trishelle, Mike on Fishbowl; Dan leaves the Challenge

Here's an interesting bit: Austin actually had a garage sale this past weekend at the site that was their house. There are no details on what was for grabs or who was selling stuff...

The Life and Times of Juniper Lee, a relatively new cartoon on Cartoon Network is actually produced and written in part by none other than Judd (San Francisco). Congratulations to him on that.

Also, don't forget tomorrow that Steven (Las Vegas) will be having his weekly Fishbowl chat along with Mike (Back to New York) and Trishelle (Las Vegas). The chat is at 12pm (Pacific) / 3pm (Eastern).

And finally, a spoiler for you people out there loving this Challenge that is airing. Highlight the next bit of text to find out which team loses a guy in next week's Inferno II:

The Bad Asses will be saying good-bye to one of their male team members for sure. The question is will Dan (Miami) pull through and win the lifesaver?

Dan explains his spat with Jodi; Mallory is in Avon and Cosmo; Angela opened a message board

A couple of things... If you happened to watch the drama that was yesterday's Inferno, which involved Jodi (Extreme) versus the bad guys team, you missed a pretty good episode. For those of you cursing Veronica (Semester At Sea), Rachel (Campus Crawl), Tina (South Pacific) and Dan (Miami) to the heavens, you may want to read Dan's rebuttal, which clears up some problems with editing.

I'm hearing Mallory (Paris) is still appearing all over the place. She's a hot model now and she's lately been sighted in the Avon catalog and Cosmopolitan Magazine.

And finally, Angela (Extreme) has opened up a message board at her website. Remember to visit our Message Board and our nifty Store.

Dan finds himself in a bizarre situation in St. Louis and writes about it

An article posted at Advocate.com reports that Dan (Miami) found himself in a bizarre situation in St. Louis. Check out the article here.
